A Spoonful of Courage – Dr. Charles Page
A Spoonful of Courage
Dr. Charles Page
In this day and age in which we live, medical advancements are coming on us a rapid pace. Faster and more detailed. Because of this, medical facilities run sort of a “production line” of people in and out of the offices and hospitals.
Gone are the days when doctors actually “knew ”their patients. And the patients trusted the doctor because they believed he understood them and did not treat them as line item on a spreadsheet.
Now, there are doctors out there that do have those kinds of relationships with their patients. I’ve been fortunate to find one where I live that I’ve been with for 20+ years. Amen.
Our guest today is one that has made it his specialty to treat his patients with kindness, respect and dignity. If I lived in East Texas – HE would be my doctor. Praise God.
Dr. Charles Page has been practicing surgery for over 25 years and has journeyed with thousands of patients. He is also the author of “A Spoonful of Courage for the Sick and Suffering” – which is an absolutely fabulous book! And the book, , “Spoonful of Courage: Equations to Find Grace in Life’s Challenges.” His ministry is also called, “Spoonful of Courage,” which we will be getting into today as well.
As an ER Physician, Dr. Charles Page has seen a lot of things happen to people over the years. He is know as the “best guy to see on the worst day of your life!” AMEN!
Help me welcome to the program the “best guy to see on the worst day of your life,” Dr. Charles Page! Also known as, Dr. Chuck!” Doc – thank you for taking the time to join us today.
You were on way back in 2019… episode number 618 or in that area. That was five years and almost 900 episodes ago! Praise God – how have you been, brother?
For those that may not have heard our prior conversation, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Dr. Charles Page?”
If I remember correctly, last time you were on, I think you mentioned something about you being a “coffee addict” – are you still a coffee connoisseur?
In the opening, I mentioned having a physician you can trust. Someone who actually cares about you. I know you call your medical practice a “BUSNISTRY” (combining business and ministry). Can you explain that term for us and how you use that to build that type of relationship with your patients?
We were recently on vacation in Texas and my wife had forgotten one of her prescriptions. My doctor had given me his personal cell phone number and had told me to call if I ever needed anything outside of hours. I didn’t want to call him, so I texted him.
He called back in 10 minutes and told me he had contacted the Pharmacy close to where we were at in Austin and phoned in the refill. I did not have to go through six voice mail messages and hope someone would call me back. That’s one reason I have stayed with him for over 20 years. It’s also only the second time I’ve ever had to call him over 20 years as well…
I don’t know if you give some of your patients your personal phone number, but how do you build a “Busnistry” of trust?
There is one story in your book where you share about doing little things the right way. It was a patient with a thyroid problem, is that right?
Tell us about your book, “A Spoonful of Courage.” When you sent this book to me prior to our other interview, I remember I read it one sitting. I could not put it down. It was that good. Can you share with us the format for this book?
You recently released another book, “Spoonful of Courage: Equations to Find Grace in Life’s Challenges.” Can you share a little about this book?
This book moves you from “victim to hero,” but this book uses “equations” to do this?
You emphasize that people are not alone. When facing medical challenges, is it normal for people to feel alone? Like, nobody cares?
If you could pick one story from your book that inspired you the most, which story would it be?
I do remember one story that I still remember to this day. Can you share the story about the old farmer that would give himself an electric shock to get his heart beating right?
I found out you also have your own TV program now? Congratulations! Share a little about that?
Dr. Chuck, we are almost out of time. But you shared with me you have a special offer for our listeners today. Can you take this moment to share about that offer?
I do appreciate that. Amen.
